I have never been a person with "perfect" skin and have battled acne breakouts since I was a teenager. This struggle has, unfortunately, left me with hyperpigmentation, scarring and overall uneven looking skin. I am 28 years old, so I am also starting to notice some signs of aging, like fine lines around my eyes, on my forehead and around my mouth. So I am constantly trying new treatments that not only help fade my hyper pigmentation and scarring but also keep my face looking youthful without having to do procedures like botox. Over the last 4 years I have tried several other minimally/non-invasive cosmetic procedures for this including: Medlite Laser Facials, Hydra Facials, Chemical Peels and Microdermabrasion. Overall, I can safely say that Microneedling has been my favorite procedure and the one that I want to do over and over again because I saw the best results with it.

I went to a local skin spa in Huntington Beach called "Pale Girls Palace" to have this procedure done. The woman who owns the business, Leslie, is a licensed esthetician and is SO knowledgeable about beauty and skin care. I love that she performs all of the procedures on her patients herself. She really gave me the sense that she truly loves what she does and wants to establish good relationships with her clients. I was so nervous going into this treatment because I don't like needles but she was very patient and reassuring and it wasn't near as bad as I thought it was going to be.

Leslie starts all of her microneedling treatments with microdermabrasion, which is a non-invasive procedure that removes dead skin cells and helps to pull the blood to the skin's surface before the treatment. This ensures that the needles don't penetrate dirt and oil into your skin during the actual treatment itself. After the microdermabrasion, she puts on the numbing cream and that has to sit for about 20 minutes before she can begin the procedure. During the actual procedure my only discomfort was around my jawline where I had active acne breakouts – but even this was totally tolerable. The rest of my face didn't really bother me at all, it just felt like something was slightly scratching the surface of my skin. Your face does bleed during this treatment and the amount is different for everyone. I don't think I bled too much but just enough for the treatment to really work. Despite not liking needles I have had two tattoos done and have been through a tattoo removal and in comparison microneedling was a breeze.

After the treatment my face was super red for about two days. My skin felt really tight - almost like it had been sunburnt. It was slightly uncomfortable but again it was totally tolerable. On day 3 the redness started to fade and then around day 5 I started to peel. A lot of people don't talk about the peeling aspect of microneedling but similar to a chemical peel your skin does actually flake off after a microneedling treatment. The peeling was nowhere near as severe as the chemical peel I had previously. This treatment was more of just a light flaking. It took about 10 days to really see some noticeable results but I was really impressed with the change in my skin. I noticed that my hyper pigments have faded or are gone completely, I had an age spot on my forehead that is completely gone, overall my skin's texture is much more smooth and even and the fine lines on my face have really softened giving me back that youthful glow.

Leslie charges $300 for this procedure and it is well worth it. I will definitely be doing this again in the near future."
