Lip Injections With One Syringe of Juvederm: Cost, Video and Pictures
Procedure specific satisfaction rating
My name is Sarah and I am 20 years old from Overland Park, Kansas. I want to tell you about my experience having Juvederm lip injections with Dr. Victor M. Perez, M.D., of Renue Aesthetic Surgery.
When I was 14, a dog bit me on the left side of my lip. Once I got to the hospital, I was told I would need to have 8 stitches put in my lip because it was completely split in half. I did not have a chance to have a plastic surgeon look at the wound or stitch it up for me. I have always had rounded lips and once it healed the scar made the left side of my lip a completely different shape. I spent years being insecure about how it looked, so I decided to look into lip augmentation doctors near me to get fuller lips.
After a few recommendations, I found Dr. Perez’s office and scheduled a consultation. We talked about the process and his idea on how to fix the shape of my lips for about 30 minutes. After that, we decided that one syringe of Juvederm, a hyaluronic acid filler, would be enough to fix my issue and add a little bit of size to my lips. We did the procedure that same day. The procedure cost $450 for one syringe of Juvederm.
He numbed my mouth with a lidocaine injection that blocked my nerves from feeling anything. Thee left side of my face had a little bit of a hard time getting numb, but he was patient with it and made sure I was comfortable before he started injecting the lip fillers. After my mouth was numb, he started injecting the filler. He stopped every so often to let me see how it looked and asked for my opinion on where I thought I required more filler. He respected my opinion on how I wanted my lips to appear while still explaining his thoughts to me.
It wasn’t painful, but it was uncomfortable. I could feel a little bit of stinging in my lip area as the filler was being inserted but nothing unbearable. He worked on building up the filler underneath where my scar was, so both sides of my lips would be the same size. The most painful part was when he was trying to raise the part where my scar was. I do not know if this was because my nerves are a little more sensitive in that area. It took about 20 minutes for him to finish the process.
The helper came in and took an after photo and showed me how it helped lift my profile and created more of a pouty look, which is what I wanted. He gave me an ice pack and went over how I was supposed to avoid foods with salt in them because it could cause more swelling. He explained that everyone is different and reacts differently to fillers. He was not sure how swollen or how long my lips would be swollen and he wasn’t sure if I would have bad bruising.
My lips were more than a little swollen after the procedure. They felt huge after the injections were done and I couldn’t move them for a few days. I used ice on them as much as I could for about 3 days after the procedure. I avoided working out because I didn’t want too much blood to flow to my lips leading to increased swelling and bruising. My lips began to bruise a few hours after the procedure and they stayed bruised for about a week. It looked like I got punched in the mouth. I bruise very easily and the people who recommended I get my lips done never looked like I did. Everyone reacts differently to cosmetic procedures, and I, unfortunately, reacted a bit worse than most.
I have now have had my lips done twice and each time I get it done, it lasts about a year. Dr. Perez is very kind and trustworthy. The procedure isn't a big deal and the recovery time isn’t overwhelming. I will continue to get them done, because I like the way it evens out both sides of my lips. It might sound a bit pricey but it helped my self-confidence so it is worth the money to me.
