When I had my double mastectomy, I wish I had known then about the nipple sparing operation. All I kept thinking about was this is life and death. I didn't want to die from breast cancer and I wasn't worried about my appearance then. That changed as I healed and wanted to feel good about myself naked. Not having nipples or areolas made me feel less like a woman.
I opted not to go through surgery to have my nipples restored and instead visited Vinnie Myers, who is widely known as one of the best nipple tattoo artists in the country and around the world. Vinnie is very nice, has a great sense of humor and is also very busy. He also always seems to be wearing a hat! I believe he does around 1500 nipple tattoos a year and is booked to the max. When I had my breasts tattooed, he still had some availability, but I'm not sure if that's still the case. Vinnie had a sister who had breast cancer and although he can't personally relate to what you're going through, he's very sympathetic because of that.
My tattoo session took about an hour or around there and didn't hurt because of the sensation I had lost after my double mastectomy. Vinnie was so great during the entire tattoo session and I learned that he was in the army and that's when he started doing tattoos. The cost of my tattoos was about $600 for both breasts.
Going to Vinnie for my reconstructive tattoos was a very transformative experience. I feel whole again. I can't thank him enough and I hope I never have to hear the word cancer again and can live my life.
