My Experience Having a Breast Lift, Tummy Tuck and Liposuction With Dr. Reish
Before having my breast lift, tummy tuck and liposuction, I had bariatric weight loss surgery. Bariatric surgery resulted in me losing 150 pounds. Before that, I had weighed 345 lbs. With my dramatic weight loss, came a significant amount of excess skin in both my stomach and breast areas. While I had gained confidence after my significant weight loss, I knew the loose skin I was left with needed to be fixed.
Nearly 18 months post-op from my bariatric surgery, I decided to begin looking for a plastic surgeon to treat my excess skin. My biggest concern was my breast. When I weighed nearly 350 pounds, my cup size was a 48E. After my weight loss, I was left with a 36 inch waist and my cup size was a 38DDD to accommodate my loose skin. I also had a lot of excess breast tissue that hung from the lower portion of my breasts, causing my them to sag nearly 18 inches beneath my shoulders. All of this sagging caused a great deal of pain for me on a daily basis. I knew that if I didn't want to have both my stomach and breasts done, I needed to at the very least get my breasts done. They were creating serious health issues, I could not live with the pain that was caused by them everyday.
After visiting multiple plastic surgeons for initial consultations, I ended up deciding to go with to Dr. Richard G. Reish at the Long Island Plastic Surgery Group in New York, NY. Out of all of the doctor I'd met with, Dr. Reish was the only one to ask what I wanted out of my procedures. For me, that was an easy answer. I did not want to be in pain anymore and I wanted to eliminate both my loose breast tissue and abdominal laxity. Dr. Reish went over the best course of action to treat my concerns. He suggested that I consider a tummy tuck in addition to a breast lift and liposuction on my back. He told me that after the dramatic progress I had made with my weight, these procedures would leave me with the best aesthetic results. Dr. Reish also told me that I did not need a breast reduction or breast augmentation with my lift. This meant that I would not need breast implants during my procedure either, which I was very happy about.
After my consultation, I instantly knew Dr. Reish was the right surgeon for me. I scheduled my surgery for August 25th, 2016.
Before I knew it, the date of my surgery had arrived. I don't remember much from it. I remember having an IV placed into my body and being administered general anesthesia, then waking up in recovery. The recovery process wasn't pleasant, I had the usual bruising, swelling and discomfort, but the end result made it worth it.
In summary, I am very happy with both Dr. Reish and the outcome of procedures. Dr. Reish was one of the most kind, thoughtful and encouraging physicians I have ever come across as a patient. From day 1, he gave me his personal cell phone number and told me to contact him If I ever had any concerns or issues I wanted to discuss. And I took advantage of this. I had many concerns I discussed with him, including a complication I encountered during my recovery. While I was healing, I had a stubborn seroma, or build up of excess fluid, which I had to visit his office multiple times to have drained. Seromas can commonly occur post-op, but the major weight loss I had made it more difficult to treat. Through this entire process, I because very close with Dr. Reish and it was always very kind and helped me through every part of my recovery process. I can not say enough kind things about the way both Dr. Reisch and his medical staff treated me during my recovery process. I always felt like they cared deeply about me and I really appreciated it.
As far as my aesthetic results, I could not be more elated. My breast size is now a 36DD, which is what Dr. Reish told me I would be during my pre-op consultation. They look and feel better than I could have imagined. My quality of life has improved significantly. Before my procedures, removing my bra at night was an ordeal. My breasts would sag so much, that I needed to hold them and gently place them down to prevent them from dropping too quickly and pulling on my shoulders. Not a fun experience. Now, I don't even need to wear a bra if I want. The incisions made during my tummy tuck and breast lift surgery have also healed extremely well and are barely visible. I can now wear any bra or bathing suit I want. It really is an amazing feeling to be able to go into any store and know that I will be able to fit into a 36DD bra. This has changed my life and I could not be happier!
Looking back, I never thought I would have cosmetic surgery. Even when I had my weight loss surgery, I thought that would be the last procedure I would ever have. Now that I've been through it all, I don't know how I would have lived without having cosmetic surgery. It had improved my life so much. I feel more confident than I ever have. I used to hate the way body looked and now I like what I see in the mirror. I will, however, tell you that my body is not perfect. I still have excess skin in some areas of my body and I have had subsequent revision surgeries to take care of those areas. I also have some excess arm fat, which I may deal with later on.
While these procedure will offer dramatic results, they are not magic. Dr. Reish did an amazing job managing my expectations and he certainly did not over-promise and under-deliver. I highly recommend him and these procedures for anyone dealing with the same Issues I had. They were one of the best things I've done in my life. Good luck and please write to me below if you have any questions or comments.
