My Invisalign Journey With Dr. Nathalie Dowsett in Alberta
My name is Alexa Warren, I am a 24-year-old residing in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and I started the first day of my Invisalign journey with my dentist, Dr. Nathalie Dowsett on February 26, 2018. For as long as I can remember, I have been incredibly self-conscious of my teeth and smile. I hated the dentist. I never went. I think it had been about four years since I had last been in before I had my first appointment with Dr. Nathalie in November 2016. My now fiancé, Jim, proposed to me in August 2016, and although I was delighted, the realization that I was going to be heavily photographed on a day where I was definitely going to be smiling a lot had set in. I knew that something needed to be done to get myself to a point where I was no longer self-conscious of my teeth, but I didn’t know exactly what.
One day, my friend Jessica was talking about her Invisalign, something that I had only heard of but never really looked into. Once I found out that she was currently wearing her Invisalign trays, and was able to get some insight from her based on her own personal experience, I immediately asked for the contact to her dentist and booked in with Dr. Nathalie three months after our engagement. I couldn’t even tell that Jessica was wearing any sort of tray, let alone one that was aligning all of her teeth so quickly.
Once I had spent some time updating my x-rays, and a check-up and cleaning was done, Nathalie and I sat down to discuss my Invisalign options moving forward. Nathalie was very helpful with showing me what I would get based on a ten-tray or full-cycle program with Invisalign. The computer program she used for the presentation was so detailed and clear, I was amazed to see how far we could get in the 24 weeks she had quoted me. I was really happy that I sat down to discuss Invisalign, because not only were my teeth flawed to the naked eye, but they were also causing me issues with my bite, which was then causing recession in my gums.
Nathalie was very understanding about the fact that I was not only planning a wedding, but also a student on a very tight budget. She was able to offer me a $1000 discount on the total price of my Invisalign, so I therefor decided to move forward with the full-cycle, simply because the ten-tray option just didn’t seem like enough for me. That being said, I am now only on my eighth week of Invisalign, and the difference in my teeth is already amazing. I noticed the changes by the third week: my majorly crooked front tooth was straightening out, my messed up bottom teeth were making their way back to normal, and my bite was slowly starting to feel more normal.
Now, being on week eight, I am only getting more excited to see the progression in my teeth as this is when the real issues are going to start fixing themselves. I am noticing the changes in my much more stubborn back teeth and molars, and I can physically feel that movement in the first 24 hours of my new trays. Although the sensation can be quite sensitive and sore, it doesn’t last long and it just helps me know how well the new trays work every week. I get very excited for every new Wednesday night when I can switch out my trays before bed and see the progress that I will make that week!
