My Juvederm Lip Injections With Pictures, Costs and Recovery
My name is Samantha Vailloo. I’m 26 years old and from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. Within the past six months, I received lip fillers two times by Jan Costa, R.N. in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
Why did I want Juvederm lip injections?
I wanted Juvederm lip injections because I wanted fuller lips. I liked the way my lips looked when I would overline them with lip liner and wanted a more permanent solution. I was, however, hesitant to get lip fillers at first because I was afraid my lips would end up looking fake and I did not want that. I wanted fuller lips, but I wanted them to be natural looking.
How do I prepare for my injections?
When I made an appointment, I was told that 48 hours prior to my injections I would have to avoid alcohol and blood thinners like ibuprofen. I was told this would help prevent unnecessary blood loss during my procedure and a quicker recovery after.
What was my consultation for my lip injections like?
During my first consultation, I was a bit nervous because I wanted to slightly enhance my lips, but I had also never done any type of plastic surgery/ cosmetic procedure, so I was afraid of the results looking too “fake” or over-exaggerated. I explained all of these concerns to Jan and let her know that I only wanted to add a small amount of filler, mainly to my top lip. I showed her pictures of my lips when I slightly overline them with lip liner to let her know the type of look I was hoping to achieve. She was extremely informative, explained exactly what I should expect during and after the procedure, took the time to really listen to my concerns, and really put me at ease. We decided to just start out with half a syringe (.5 ml) of Juvederm to add a subtle and natural amount of fullness.
What was the lip injection procedure like?
My procedure was performed right after my consultation. Before the procedure started, Jan applied a numbing cream and an ice pack to my lips. I was really nervous about the pain, but I honestly didn’t feel much at all. All I felt was a very small pinch when the needle went into my lips. The procedure took about 10 minutes. From start to finish, the entire appointment (including the consultation) took no more than 30 minutes.
What were my results and the healing process like from Juvederm lip injections?
Immediately after post-injection, my lips looked beautiful - however, after a few hours, they did start to swell and I had a bit of bruising (all of which Jan told me would happen). I should note, however, that I did not experience any pain or discomfort when my lips started to swell.
The first 3-7 days after my procedure, my lips remained swollen and a little bruised. I was able to put lipstick on to cover the bruising. My lips were also a little sore, but not painful.
After 5 days, the swelling and bruising went away completely, and the final results were exactly what I had asked for! In fact, I liked the way my lips so much, that I decided to return 4 months later to add even more fullness to my lips. Jan decided to inject a full syringe of Juvederm Ultra Plus this time, which is thicker and lasts longer than Juvederm, which was used during my first procedure. This was the perfect amount, as I loved my lips even more!
Did I experience any side effects from my lip injections?
I only experienced the bruising and swelling described above. I had no other side effects. Jan was an amazing injector and didn't damage any blood vessels or anything.
How much did my Juvederm lip injections cost?
I paid $300 for 1/2 a syringe of Juvederm during my first procedure and $550 for a syringe of Juvederm Ultra Plus during my second procedure.
What I recommend lip injections?
I absolutely love the way I look. I think dermal fillers are an excellent way to plump up your lips. Juvederm fillers worked well for my lips, but there other similar hyaluronic acid fillers on the market which work just as well.
