I am a 35 year old female from Vancouver, BC, Canada. I have always wanted my lip area to appear fuller and had contemplated a lip augmentation for some time. I felt like both my upper lip and lower lip needed some additional volume and started to look into Juvederm and Restylane hyaluronic acid dermal fillers. After doing some research on Google, I decided to visit a doctor in my area to get my lips injected.

I made an appointment with Reviva MD in Richmond, BC, Canada to meet with Dr. Nguen. I told him that I not only wanted fuller lips, but I wanted my results to last for a long time. Dr. Nguen recommended going with Restylane. He told me it would cost 550CDN per syringe and 50$CDN for the cannula insertion device (optional). I was okay with the cost and decided to schedule the procedure.

The day of my injections arrived and Dr. Nguen began the procedure by placing a numbing gel on my lips. The numbing gel contained some sort of topical lidocaine, which helped number my skin prior to the insertion of a micro-cannulae . The micro-cannulae is inserted into the upper and lopwer lip via the side of the mouth. The Restylane gets injected straight across the lips from inside the cannulae. This eliminates scarring, bruising and using multiple injection sites on the outer part of the lips to deliver the filler. It was very straight forward and I was done within 20 minutes. Within a few hours of the the injections, my lips started to swell from the inner part of my mouth, the outer part had no bruising whatsoever. The swelling continued for a good 24 hours. I did not have any pain at the injection site either. By the end of the second day it went down almost completely. By the third day, I was absolutely in LOVE with my lips. I was also very happy that I needed minimal recovery time for my lips to look great. I highly recommend that if you choose to go ahead with Restylane using the cannulae – this method created a beautiful, smooth full lip that looked the most natural. I definitely think it's a good thing to pay extra for the cannulae when you get your injections. I also highly recommend taking the next day off work, or get this done on a Friday afternoon. Your lips will swell quite a bit and you will likely want to stay home. Take some Advil, Tylenol or Aspirin and you will be totally fine within 24-72 hours.

A year later, I decided to return for a second lip augmentation. This time, however, I went with Juvederm injections. I was not as happy with my results from Juvederm. It only lasted 3-4 months, while Restylane lasted almost 8 full months. I also prefer the Restylane because financially I worry less about having to redo my injections so often and the results are more prominent. If you want bigger lips too, I would go with this option. Myself, I prefer the bigger lip look. With Juvederm, you would need a few syringes for the bigger lip look. With Restylane you can achieve that look for less money. This is just my opinion, but I truly believe the results were more prominent with Restylane.
