VI Peel Helped Improve My Acne Scars
Procedure specific satisfaction rating
Hi! My name is Silvia Moreira, I'm 29 and from Houston, Texas. I had a VI chemical peel at Novopelle Houston Med Spa.
I’ve been struggling with my skin for a long time. I used to have hormonal acne and a lot of bumps on my skin, so I’ve been doing a lot of treatments/methods to help clear up my skin. I was finally able to clear it up without any drugs or medications. But after that, I was still left with a lot of skin texture issues, acne scars and large pores on my skin. I’m also in my late 20’s, so I really want to combat aging. The med spa I’ve been going to is called Novopelle Houston and it was recommended that I get an intense chemical peel called Vi Peel to help clear up my skin.
The first day you go in without any makeup and they clean your face with alcohol. Then they apply the VI chemical peel liquid solution to your face using a small cotton cloth. The solution burns a little but not a whole lot. I didn’t use numbing cream prior, but you do have that option. The whole process of getting the chemical peel done takes less than 15 minutes, because they are just putting a liquid on your face using a cotton pad. After the solution was applied my face, it was red and felt like a bad sunburn. My face was red pretty much the rest of the day, burned a little, and also itched a bit. They gave me a VI peel post care kit that comes with towelettes, gel cleanser, anti-itch cream and sunscreen with spf 50. The kid came with instructions on what to do for the next 7 days.
On day 2 after my peel, the redness went away, but my skin started to get a bit dark, itchy, and hard, but it didn’t burn anymore. On day 3, I started peeling around my mouth mostly and a lot because that is where your face moves the most. You have to make sure to follow the instructions and only use the creams and cleanser they provide to you during the whole process. On day 4, peeling started near my neck and cheeks. Day 5, I started peeling more on my cheeks than on my forehead. I did see large chunks of skin falling off and they told me not to pull them, exfoliate, or manually peel the skin, because it can cause scarring or pigmentation. So I just let the skin fall off on its own. I didn’t wear makeup and I worked from home during this time. Because of the severe peeling (which is normal), there is a long down time, although you can wear makeup if you want, but I didn't. Days 6 and 7 are the last days of noticeable peeling. On days 8 and 9 my face was pretty much completely done with peeling and I was left with bright glowy skin, less pigmentation, and reduced acne marks.
I really liked how my skin looked after my VI Peel, because it looked like I had fresh new skin, it was very luminous and less dull. The glowing skin lasted several weeks but then my face went back to normal. All of my acne scars weren’t completely removed -- I would have to do several treatments to get rid of them all -- but the peel did help on how deep they are. So overall, I did like the results and would do it again if I ever need to target hyperpigmentation and dull skin, but I would make sure to plan for the downtime.
