A few years ago I had a tummy tuck or "abdominoplasty" and wanted to share some information for anyone looking to have this done.

An abdominoplasty is the removal of excess skin and fat in the abdomen region. It can also help restore muscles to make your stomach look flatter. Tummy tucks are not a weight loss solution or a substitute for working out. This procedure is for people who cannot reach their goals from exercise or eating right. I had multiple pregnancies which resulted in a flabby looking stomach which is a main reason a lot of women get tummy tucks. Other reasons for this surgery are prior stomach surgeries, large changes in weight, hereditary, and aging.

After my abdominoplasty I was wrapped in bandages or "dressings" and an elastic compression bandage to lessen the swelling that might occur following the procedure. I also had a temporary drain that collected any excess fluid like blood that would build up around the incision.

Make sure to ask your doctor every question you have before the surgery to make sure you both are prepared for what lies ahead.
